Your domain is a critical business asset

Domain names are a key part of a website’s identity and email communication. Namecheap provides domain registration and related services, but no registrar can protect an account whose owner shares credentials carelessly. Start with strong, unique passwords and multifactor authentication. Keep the recovery contact current and use a domain-specific administrator account rather than sharing one login with contractors.

Protect DNS and domain transfers

Review the exact DNS records that point to your website and email. Document nameservers, A/AAAA records, CNAMEs and mail records before allowing anyone to change them. Check transfer lock status and whether registry-lock options are available for your situation. Verify any unexpected transfer or renewal messages directly from your account dashboard instead of clicking links in unsolicited emails.

Understand SSL and email security

A valid TLS certificate protects connections to your site but does not prove that the business is trustworthy. Confirm automatic renewal and test HTTPS redirection. For email, check SPF, DKIM and DMARC with your actual mail provider and avoid changing records without a rollback plan. A correct configuration needs testing for both outgoing and incoming mail, not just a green dashboard indicator.

Plan renewals and backups

Note renewal dates, payment method validity, current renewal fees and any privacy service terms. Registrar control is separate from web hosting: keep independent backups of site files and databases so you are not dependent on one provider. Review support procedures for a locked account or stolen domain. Compare Namecheap with other registrars using total multi-year cost, not only the introductory promotion.

Questions to answer before buying

  • Does the exact model or service support the tasks you need?
  • What is the real total price, including renewal fees or accessories?
  • How can you protect your account and important information?
  • What support and cancellation or return options are available in your region?
