Base44 Security 2026: 12 Checks Before Launch

Base44 security checklist 2026: Verify app authentication, row-level permissions, secrets, integrations and backups before launching an internal tool or client portal. A working preview is not proof of secure deployment.

Last checked: 3 November 2026.

Best for: teams using Base44 to prototype or ship internal tools, customer portals and data-backed applications.

Do not skip: role/permission testing, row-level access checks, secret handling and third-party integration review.

Bottom line: Base44 provides security features, but your app’s configuration and business logic still need project-specific verification.

What Security Features Does Base44 Say It Provides?

Base44’s current security page states that the platform is SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certified, GDPR compliant and independently penetration-tested. It also states that apps include built-in security scans, row-level security and encrypted secrets.

The same page states that data is encrypted in transit with TLS 1.2+ and at rest with AES-256. Enterprise workspaces add controls such as SSO enforcement, IP allowlists and audit logs. These are platform-level claims and controls; they do not guarantee that every app you build has correct authorization logic.

1. Define Your User Roles Before Building Permissions

Write down every role that can use the app: anonymous visitor, customer, staff member, manager, administrator and any external partner. For each role, define what it can read, create, update and delete.

A common mistake is implementing authentication first and assuming permissions are automatically solved. Authentication answers “who are you?” Authorization answers “what are you allowed to do?” You need both. Our Base44 client portal security walkthrough applies this distinction to a practical multi-client example.

2. Test Row-Level Security With Real Scenarios

If user A should never see user B’s data, test that directly. Create multiple test accounts with different roles and attempt to access records through normal screens, direct URLs and API-style actions where possible.

3. Keep Secrets Out of Prompts and Front-End Code

API keys, signing secrets, database credentials and private tokens should never be embedded in client-side code or casually pasted into reusable prompts. Use Base44’s secret-management mechanisms and rotate any credential that was exposed during development.

4. Review Third-Party Integrations Separately

Your security boundary expands when you connect payment providers, email services, CRM systems, AI APIs or automation tools. Review what data leaves Base44, what permissions each integration receives and how you will revoke access if an integration is compromised.

5. Check Where Your Data Is Stored

Base44’s security page currently states that app data is stored in the United States by default, while Elite and Enterprise workspaces can choose other storage regions. If data residency matters to your organization, confirm the relevant plan and region before launch.

6. Turn On Strong Account Security

Base44 states that two-factor authentication is available and that enterprise workspaces can use stronger SSO controls. For team projects, require strong authentication for builders and administrators before the app contains sensitive production data.

7. Separate Builder Access From End-User Access

People who can modify the app should not automatically have unrestricted access to every production record. Keep builder permissions, operational admin permissions and ordinary user permissions conceptually separate.

8. Freeze or Protect Critical Areas

Base44 says builders can add custom instructions and freeze files or entities so the AI does not modify protected areas. Use protection around stable authentication logic, payment flows, critical calculations and data models once they have been reviewed.

9. Test Error States, Not Only Happy Paths

  • What happens when an API is unavailable?
  • What happens when a user submits invalid or oversized data?
  • Can a normal user reach an admin-only route?
  • What happens when a payment fails?
  • Does the app expose technical error details or secrets?
  • Can deleted or disabled users still access protected resources?

10. Verify Backup and Export Options Before You Need Them

A production plan should include a recovery path

Base44’s pricing page says users own the apps, data and users they build, and that GitHub sync is available on higher plans for source export. Verify the exact export and backup process that applies to your plan before launch.

11. Review Logging and Audit Needs

For internal business applications, you may need to know who changed a record, when a permission changed or which integration triggered an action. If auditability is important, confirm what your current Base44 plan records and whether an Enterprise workspace is necessary.

12. Run a Human Launch Review

Before production, review the app as if you were trying to break it

Test multiple accounts, role changes, direct URLs, integration failures, mobile layouts, data exports and destructive actions. For high-risk applications, use qualified security professionals rather than relying only on automated scanning.

  • No secrets in front-end code or prompts.
  • Third-party permissions reviewed.
  • Data location confirmed.
  • 2FA or SSO enabled where appropriate.
  • Critical files/entities protected from casual AI changes.
  • Failure and abuse cases tested.
  • Backup/export path verified.
