Systeme.io Free Funnel Tutorial 2026: Build Your First Email List

Want to create your first email funnel without paying for several tools? Systeme.io offers a free plan with funnel pages, email campaigns and automation. This guide walks through a straightforward example: a useful checklist download, an opt-in form, a confirmation page and a short welcome sequence. It is based on the platform’s official documentation, not a claim that we personally configured an account for you.

Can you really build a funnel on Systeme.io for free?
According to Systeme.io’s published pricing, its free plan has up to 2,000 contacts, three sales funnels, one blog, one course and one custom domain, with unlimited marketing emails as described by the provider. Those are vendor-stated allowances, not a guarantee about email deliverability, fair-use requirements or feature availability in every region.
When a new subscriber lands on your funnel, the page collects their email address and triggers the follow-up you configured. The workflow can be useful for a beginner’s newsletter, an educational download, a course waiting list or a small service business. It does not make sales automatically.

Before you build: plan one clear outcome
Start with a specific audience and a relevant free resource. Example: someone teaching small-business owners how to plan their first website could offer a one-page Website Launch Checklist. The funnel headline should explain the actual benefit rather than promise unrealistic income.
Prepare four pieces of content: an opt-in headline, a short description of the resource, a thank-you message, and an email containing the promised resource. Write your privacy notice and determine how you will record consent before inviting subscribers.
Step 1: Create your first funnel
- Sign in to Systeme.io and open Sites → Sales funnels.
- Select Create, give the funnel a descriptive name and choose the domain and currency when requested.
- Select Build an Audience for a lead-generation workflow. Systeme.io says this template includes an opt-in page and a thank-you page.
- Open the new funnel and select the first page to customize it.
This follows the vendor’s funnel creation tutorial. Avoid choosing a sales checkout template when you only want an email list.
Step 2: Design an opt-in page that actually works
Choose a simple, mobile-friendly template with one purpose: explain the checklist and let a person subscribe. Systeme.io’s contact-list tutorial says the form needs at least one Email input. Add a button and configure its action as Submit form; a visually attractive button without that action will not capture subscribers as intended.
Keep the copy plain. Example: Get a 10-point website-launch checklist before you choose a host or site builder. Give visitors a short explanation of what email they will receive and a link to your privacy information. On the page, link the button to the next funnel step or other explicitly configured confirmation destination.
Step 3: Use a thank-you page, not a dead end
A confirmation page should tell the person what happens next. If you require double opt-in, say they need to confirm the email before receiving your resource. If the delivery email is immediate, explain when to expect it and how to check spam or promotions folders.
Consider linking to one relevant educational article. Avoid pressuring a subscriber to buy immediately after agreeing to receive a free resource.
Step 4: Create a welcome email campaign
Under Emails → Campaigns, create a named campaign. Then create its first message with a truthful subject line and sender identity. Systeme.io’s official campaign guide documents the email editor choices and campaign creation flow.
Here is a sensible three-message sequence; the timing is your editorial plan, not an automated default:
| Timing you configure | Email subject idea | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Immediately after confirmed signup | Your website checklist is here | Deliver exactly what was promised |
| Two days later | Three hosting mistakes beginners can avoid | Teach something useful and link to a guide |
| Four days later | How to choose a funnel or website platform | Offer a balanced comparison and optional product link |
Use your own content and ensure your mailing list has permission to receive these messages. If you recommend a paid service, disclose the commercial relationship clearly inside the relevant email.
Step 5: Connect signup to the campaign
Open Automations → Rules and create an automation. Select the trigger Funnel step form subscribed and choose the correct opt-in step. Add the action Subscribe to campaign and select your welcome sequence. Save the rule.
These names and the setup pattern come from Systeme.io’s email-sequence automation tutorial. If the goal is a one-off welcome message, the separate Send email action may be simpler.
Step 6: Consider double opt-in and test with your own address
Systeme.io supports double opt-in on individual forms. The official help says the prospect must click a confirmation link within 24 hours or their contact is removed, and email automations remain paused until confirmation. This can improve list quality, but it also means your welcome email may not reach people who never confirm.
Test with an email address you control: submit the form, confirm subscription if required, check the contact record, verify the message arrives, open the resource link, and test the unsubscribe path. Do not add purchased email lists or silently import people who never consented.
Step 7: Review costs and limitations before upgrading
Systeme.io currently lists its Startup plan at $17/month for higher allowances than Free. That does not mean every creator needs to upgrade. A new subscriber list below the free limit and a handful of funnel pages may be enough for a long time. Review integrations, brand email settings, domains, automation needs and future subscriber growth before paying.

Frequently asked questions
Is Systeme.io free forever?
The provider currently advertises a no-expiry free plan with restrictions. Verify the latest policy on its pricing page.
Can I send an email automatically after signup?
Yes. The documented automation lets you trigger Send email or Subscribe to campaign after a funnel-step form submission.
Does every form automatically use double opt-in?
No. The setting is configured per form. Choose it deliberately and test the confirmation experience.
Will this funnel earn money without marketing?
No. A funnel provides infrastructure for capturing and following up with interested people; it does not guarantee traffic or conversions.
Bottom line
For a beginner, a simple opt-in form plus a genuinely valuable welcome email is a better starting point than a complex sales system. Build the free version, test the full journey, and pay only if your list and workflow need additional capacity.
